Optimism Fractal & Town Hall 2025 Planning: Strategic Evolution

Introduction

Optimism Fractal and Optimism Town Hall stand at an exciting inflection point as we approach 2025. The Optimism ecosystem's evolution, particularly through Season 7's enhanced focus on interoperability and new RetroFunding mechanisms, presents transformative opportunities to scale our governance processes and community coordination.

In early December, I shared a series of Eden Fractal 2025 Strategy documents outlining an ambitious vision for expanding our coordination tools and processes across the Superchain and throughout society. Eden Fractal's work pioneering these mechanisms directly supports Optimism Fractal's core intents by developing and testing essential infrastructure that enables democratic coordination at scale. In the 29th episode of Optimism Town Hall, we explored 2025 plans for Optimism Fractal and Town Hall, with a focus on the strategy to maximize the impact of the fractal ecosystem on the Superchain.

Proposed Schedule Evolution

I am planning to propose a significant evolution in how we structure our community events, transitioning both Optimism Fractal and Optimism Town Hall from weekly to bi-weekly cadence starting in early 2025. This change would be coordinated with Eden Fractal's deployment of ORDAO and commencement of bi-weekly Respect Games on Base.

Event Structure

The proposed schedule would:

• Transition Optimism Fractal events to bi-weekly (Thursday 17 UTC)
• Transition Optimism Town Hall to bi-weekly (Thursday 18 UTC)
• Alternate weeks with Eden Fractal events (switching to Thursday 17 UTC)
• Begin with first events of 2025 after a 1-2 week winter break

Additionally, this transition would include a proposal to update our game prompts to measure contributions over the past two weeks instead of past week (and potentially include adjusted game prompt optimizations):

Optimism Fractal

• New prompt: "What did you do to grow Optimism over the past two weeks?"
• Focuses on direct Superchain ecosystem impact with a bit more aspirational framing

Eden Fractal

• New prompt: "What did you do to advance governance, coordination, or public goods over the past two weeks?"
• Broadens scope to measure implementation of Respect Game and related tools across ecosystems

Strategic Benefits

This evolution would enhance our ecosystem impact through:

Ecosystem Alignment

• Better positions community for Optimism Season 7 objectives
• Supports interoperability focus through multi-chain deployment
• Enables deeper integration across rapidly growing Superchain communities (Base, Zora, Ink from Kraken, WorldCoin, etc.)

Resource Optimization

• Provides core teams more time for relationship building
• Creates space for strategic ecosystem development
• Enables focused outreach to various Superchain communities

Community Growth

• Maintains valuable weekly touchpoints through alternating schedule
• Creates opportunities for collaboration, networking, and project showcases
• Enables broader ecosystem participation while preserving community bonds
• Supports broader tool adoption and implementation throughout society with Eden Fractal

Technical Implementation

The technical foundations for this evolution are rapidly maturing. Tadas deployed ORDAO for Optimism Fractal at the beginning of Season 5 (as you can watch in our first Optimism Town Hall episode of the season) and he expects to deploy ORDAO for Eden Fractal in mid-January 2025.

This deployment will enable exciting new possibilities, including potential implementation of the "Higher Order Fractal" concept that Tadas proposed. This could allow Optimism Fractal community members' earned Respect to contribute to a broader fractal ecosystem distribution. I encourage everyone to watch last week's Eden Fractal video where we had an excellent discussion about this concept.

Our technical infrastructure continues to expand through multiple complementary tools:

• Respect.Games app development and testing
• Fractalgram app improvements built with ORDAO
• New coordination mechanisms in the Optimystics Toolkit

Community Discussion

While this proposal builds on discussions from last week's event and reflects substantial strategic consideration, it is not yet finalized. Other perspectives have emerged - for instance, Tadas has shared different views on implementation approaches that deserve consideration.
