What are Respect Trees?
Respect Trees are a fractal framework being developed to facilitate collective decision-making, set priorities, and allocate resources in decentralized communities.
At the heart of this system are non-transferable Respect tokens, which community members earn by contributing to their community and playing the Respect Game. This innovative model uses a hierarchical structure similar to a tree where each node represents a decision point or a project that community members can influence. Respect Trees enable community members to vote with Respect on various nodes of the tree to prioritizing projects, proposals, and discussions.
We’re in the process of developing Respect Trees from a conceptual framework into tooling that can be used to coordinate the Optimism Fractal community and the Optimism Collective. We’re also exploring integrations with various popular platforms, like Notion and Github. We believe that Respect Trees can greatly help the Collective and all organizations coordinate to achieve shared goals.
You can learn more in the videos below where we discussed implementing Respect Trees during Optimism Fractal and Eden Fractal events. You can also see the original post about Respect Trees by Tadas (the original architect of Respect Trees), explore a related community project, and explore the latest design to learn more.
We’re excited to share much more about Respect Trees soon and hope you enjoy the videos below!

OF 16: Introducing OPF Trees
What is the best way to set priorities and evaluate impact? After ranking each other’s contributions, the Optimism Fractal community explores how OPF Trees can coordinate collective decisions and enlighten the review process for RetroFunding 🌱💛💡
In the 16th episode of Optimism Fractal Tadas introduced the newest design for OPF Trees, which uses the soulbound Respect token of Optimism Fractal (OPF) to coordinate priorities and allocate RetroFunding in the Optimism Collective. You can watch Tadas explain the concept of OPF Trees and a fruitful community discussion for 25 minutes starting at 1:00:04.
EF 60: Respect Trees
How can communities coordinate to maximize mutual benefit? We draw inspiration from fractals in nature and explore Respect Trees, an elegant primitive for collaborative thought, prioritization, and action! 🎬
Tadas introduced the concept of Respect Trees for the first time in the 60th episode of Eden Fractal. You can explore Tadas’ original article to learn more about Respect Trees and watch him share a presentation about Respect Trees at 1:05:19 in this video. You can listen to the following hour to hear highly engaging discussions from community members for more details. More coming soon! 🌳
Creator Talk with Tadas and Dan
You can hear from the architect of Respect Trees, Tadas Vaitiekunas, in the first episode of Creator Talk with Dan Singjoy. They discuss Eden+Fractal, an innovative consensus game that empowers communities with profound potential for creative collaboration. This interview introduces concepts that synergize well with Respect and provides a broad overview of some of our work leading to the introduction of Respect Trees.
